Just a few days ago, China’s President Xi was shaking hands with Philippine President Marcos with a friendly smile, and now an armed Chinese “coast guard vessel” is unlawfully and brutally expelling Filipino fishermen from Philippine waters.
According to the newspaper Philstar Global, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs informed China on Tuesday that Filipino fishermen have the legal right to fish in the area and “take whatever they are due” under Philippine and international law after being chased out of the Philippines’ Ayungin Shoal by the Chinese coast guard.
This comes after the Philippine Coast Guard stated that on January 9, just days after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s state visit to China from January 3 to 5, a Chinese Coast Guard vessel (CCGV) chased away a Filipino fishing boat.
