A Pakistani politician criticizes Balochistan’s “ongoing exploitation” by Chinese businesses.
Balochistan, a province in Pakistan, has seen its “ongoing exploitation” by Chinese corporations working on power projects, according to a politician who has called for “reigning in the enterprises” responsible for ruining the maritime environment and local fishermen’s livelihoods.
The Balochistan politician speaking on behalf of Lasbela and Gwadar referred to the corporations as “cheaters” and claimed they were not paying taxes.
In Balochistan, Chinese businesses were acting as “forces of exploitation.”
Bhootani’s criticism comes as Balochistan sees an increase in demonstrations against the Chinese trawler mafia and the lack of essential services like hospitals.
Locals in the seaside city gripe that the trawler mafia has destroyed local fishermen’s means of subsistence. As promised, Chinese initiatives have not given locals work possibilities.
